A bit about Mitch...
Mitch Simpson’s parson sojourn spans four decades, from North Carolina to California to Florida and back. Beginning in 1990, he shepherded the flock at University Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, N.C., retiring on March 1, 2020. His patron saint is Gordon Lightfoot. Tar Heel basketball has taken him to the mountaintop (and the occasional valley) every Spring since his 1968 freshman year at Carolina. Piddling in his shed and landscaping his yard provide ongoing therapy, and watching his English Lab “Rosie” fetch the morning paper from the driveway gives him more joy than anyone really deserves. UNC Chapel Hill, Cambridge University, Duke and Florida State all shaped his intellect, his pastor-father showed him what speaking truth to power looked like, his wife Betty and their children Andrew, Aaron and Ellie fill his heart with hope and inspiration and show him more grace than he can comprehend. And Jesus keeps messing with him.
